The Four of Scepters

The Fours are anchored by Major Arcanum IV, The Sovereign.  The Sovereign symbolizes the result, or realization, of the action represented by Isis Unveiled; thus, the keyword for the Sovereign is REALIZATION.  Ruled by Scorpio, other significant key words for the Sovereign are Sex, Reproduction, Spirit world, Death, Psychism, Other People’s Money, Taxes, and Conquest.

The key phrase for the Four of Scepters is A LEGACY.  Some of the outer meanings for the Four of Scepters are:

Rulership

Influences by people in authority

Successful enterprise

Good business credit

Negotiations completed

The Four of Scepters represents the Leo decanate of Leo, subruled by the Sun, and represented by the constellation Crater, a furnace or a cup of fire.  This decanate represents a fiery love nature and a desire and ability to rule others.  This ruling tendency, if not restrained, may incline toward domination; but if the love energy can be channeled properly, success is sure to follow.  This decanate represents a tendency to either allow pleasure-seeking or, to counter the weakness, celibacy to dominate the life. Neither of these extremes is a healthy expression of the finer qualities of this decanate.  The key word for the astrological interpretation of this card is RULERSHIP.

The bible story of Nebuchadnezzar relays that he built a fiery furnace heated seven times hotter than was customary. The furnace was built to punish three men of God who refused to bow down before Nebuchadnezzar’s earthly power.  So hot was the furnace that the men who were ordered to cast the dissenters into the flame perished from the intense heat.  The companions of God, however, had formed spiritual associations for their desires.  So, when Nebuchadnezzar looked into the furnace, he saw the three men walking around unharmed and with them a fourth, who appeared to be the Son of God.

Leo rules desires and the will to manifest them.  This story teaches that all desires associated with earthly power have the capability to sear the soul, while desires of a spiritual nature will protect the soul and lift it into everlasting life in the spiritual realms.  So, the spiritual message of the Four of Scepters is:  To learn to like anything, associate with it as many pleasurable thoughts and sensations as possible.
